I began martial arts training in the art of Jiu Jitsu in 1989 whilst undertaking my undergraduate degree at Sheffield University. In 1992, I began my PhD at Leicester University. Here, I completed my instructor qualifications and became instructor of the club in 1993. I was the instructor in residence at the University club until 2003 when I moved to Northamptonshire, passing the club to one of my black belt students.

Whilst instructing at Leicester University I also founded 2 more successful clubs in Leicester and Loughborough (all three clubs are still thriving). While living in Northamptonshire I have founded the Cambridge Jiu Jitsu club and been closely involved with one of my students in the founding of the Anglia Ruskin University club. I currently reside in Exeter were I am an associate lecturer at Exeter College and teach martial arts classes in local schools, Exeter College, Exeter University and have a thriving adults and childrens cit  y class.

I founded Elite Martial Arts as a way to teach my accumulated knowledge. This is a rapidly growing organisation and in the UK we now have now 12+ adult clubs with over 300+ members (training in the Seishin Mizu Ryu style) and 3 childrens clubs with over 50 children utilising our unique Lionheart childrens programme.

Teaching Achievements

Fully qualified jiu jitsu instructor for 13 years. I have taught 12 students to black belt and 25 to brown belt. My students have won numerous gold medals at a national level. Two of my students have made the British Jiu Jitsu squad and represented Great Britain.
